News Report Program

Method Description: This is an example of an inclusive project, which includes SLD (severe learning difficulties) and MLD (moderate learning difficulties) students. The students have produced a news report based on school. They currently work for half an hour a week on the project, in a lunchtime. They spent alternate weeks writing the script then recording the news program. They are then helped to edit the work by a member of staff, this skill will be passed on over the next year, when more time is available to teach it. So far, the project has been able to include a wide range of SLD and MLD students. The skills and activities the project include, allow the of students to access activities including: Script Writing Being a News Anchor Reporting Interviewing Operating a Video Camera Operating a microphone Operating an Auto-cue system Setting up equipment for recording The project has not yet had the opportunity to include PMLD (profound and multiple learning difficulties) students, though this may arise in the next academic year. The project allows the students to gain skills in the above mentioned activities. It also improves their presentation skills, as well as their confidence and self esteem.
Inclusion Goal: Students gaining skills in script writing, presenting and video editing.
Challenges: The students need more practice at reading/learning their scripts.
Success Indicators: The students are happy with the final product. They are beginning to look at their performance both on screen and off, to suggest improvements for their own work and others.
